Are all citizens of Germany required to apply for an ESTA?

Beginning in January 2009, visitors entering the United States on business, transit, or vacation must get a US ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). There are around 40 nations that can enter the US without a paper visa; these are known as visa-free or visa-exempt countries. With an ESTA, citizens of these nations can travel to or visit the United States for up to 90 days. Citizens of Germany do need to apply for US ESTA.

Travellers to the USA from Germany are required to have an ESTA in order to be eligible for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). This means that those who are travelling to the US by land or air without a visa must apply for an ESTA in order to be allowed admission. Infants and kids without tickets are included in this.

All citizens of these 40 nations must now have a US Electronic Travel Authorization. In other words, obtaining a US ESTA online before going to the US is required for nationals of the 40 countries that do not require a visa.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was required to implement an ESTA to increase security in the Visa Waiver Program. In essence, ESTA is a sophisticated security tool that enables the DHS to confirm a visitor’s eligibility for the VWP before they enter the US. With ESTA, the DHS can eliminate whatever danger the program might have posed to law enforcement or travel security.

You may need to apply for traditional Visa instead of Online US Visa if any of the following is true:

  • Travelling for purposes other than business and short-term trips.
  • If your travel visit will last longer than 90 days.

How long is ESTA valid for nationals of Germany?

An ESTA is only valid for two years from the permission date or until the day that your passport expires, whichever comes first. As a citizen of Germany you can use this ESTA Visa for two years . The permission date of your ESTA is shown on the Authorization Approved screen once you have submitted your ESTA application. Your ESTA’s validity expires if it is revoked, though.

When you successfully gain approval, it’s crucial to print your ESTA. Although it is not necessary upon arrival in the United States, it is crucial for keeping records. The US immigration authorities will have a copy of their own electronic copy to confirm your entry permission.

Throughout the two-year validity term, your ESTA is valid for use on multiple travels. This indicates that it is not essential to submit a new ESTA application during this time. If your ESTA expires while you are in the US, it won’t stop you from leaving the country, so you still have an opportunity to get home. Although your ESTA is still valid for 2 years, it is important to understand that this does not give visitors permission to stay in the US for that long. Your time in the US must not exceed 90 days in order to meet VWP standards.

Changing any of the information on your passport—including your name, gender, or country of citizenship—will render your existing ESTA invalid. As a result, you will have to pay a charge to apply for a new ESTA.

Does an ESTA guarantee entry into the United States for me as German citizen?

Your entrance into the United States is not assured if your ESTA application is approved. Your eligibility to go to the US under the VWP program is the only thing that the application confirms. Customs and Border Protection Officers examine travellers covered by VWP upon entry into the country. The inspection is an examination of your paperwork to determine whether or not you are eligible for the VWP based on specific international travel laws. International aircraft passengers are likewise subject to the standard immigration and customs screening procedures.

I am from Germany, Do I need to submit an ESTA application if I’m travelling via the US on my way to another nation?

As a citizen of Germany, you are regarded as a traveller in transit if you are departing for a third nation that is not the United States. If your country of origin is on the list of nations that have signed up for the Visa Waiver Program, then you must submit an ESTA application under these circumstances.

The person entering another nation through the US must indicate that they are in transit while completing the ESTA application. An indication of your destination nation must also be included with this declaration.

What is the best time to submit an ESTA request as a national of Germany?

Customs and Border Protection advises passengers to submit an ESTA application as soon as they arrange a trip, even though anyone can do so at any time before travelling to the US. Particularly, this should be completed 72 hours prior to departure.

How much time does the ESTA application procedure take for me as a citizen of Germany?

You will need an average of 15 minutes to finish the ESTA application process. You may complete the process in as little as 10 minutes, provided you have all the required paperwork on hand, including a credit card and passport.

How long will my incomplete individual application be kept on file?

If your application is not finished and submitted within 7 days, it will be deleted.

How can I finish making my ESTA application payment as a German citizen?

With a credit or debit card, you can pay the ESTA application and authorisation fees. Currently, American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Diners Club International, and JCB are accepted by the ESTA. Your application may only be handled if it contains all the needed fields and your payment has been authorised properly. Alpha-numeric characters must be used to enter the information in the fields designated for paying by card. These specifics are:

  • Debit or credit card number
  • Card expiry date

Do Children need an ESTA if they are citizens of Germany?

A child must have a current ESTA to enter the United States if they are a citizen of a nation that participates in the Visa Waiver Program . In the same manner that adults need an ESTA to enter the US, this rule applies to kids of all ages, even infants.

Children cannot travel on their parents’ passports as they can in several other nations since they need their own passports .

The child’s biometric or electronic passport must not be expired (one which must be machine-readable and possess a digital photograph of the bearer integrated into the biographical data page).

At least one blank page must be present in the passport for the stamp. The authorization granted through ESTA, typically for two years, will only be valid until the day the passport expires if the expiration date is within six months.

A parent or other responsible adult must complete the ESTA on behalf of a person who is under the age of 18. Any application submitted by a youngster without adult support will be instantly denied. If you are applying for multiple ESTAs at once, such as for a family vacation, you can submit the application as part of a group application.

When a child travels with adults who are not their parents, like grandparents or close family friends, the adults must present additional formal documentation in order to obtain the child’s consent to travel with them.

A letter of authorization to leave the nation signed by the kid’s parents or legal guardians is required when a youngster travels alone without their parents, together with photocopies of the child’s passport or identification card.

NoteIt is important to travel with copies of all the documentation proving your relationship to any children who may be with you to avoid any problems.

During my journey, my ESTA application expires. Is it need to be valid the entire time I’m in the United States?

Your ESTA authorization must be current at the time of entry into the United States and will let you remain on American soil for up to 90 days after landing. So long as you do not stay longer than the permitted 90 days in the United States, it is acceptable if your ESTA expires during your visit.

Remember that even if your ESTA authorization is valid for two years or until your passport expires (whichever comes first), your ESTA will never let you stay more than 90 days. You will require a visa if you intend to stay in the United States for an extended period.

A statement on the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency’s official website that reads, “If the ESTA expires while you are in the U.S., it will not affect your admissibility or the amount of time you are permitted to remain in the U.S.”

What happens if I’m in the US when my ESTA expires?

Although you should try to prevent it, if it does happen, there are only consequences if you stay longer than the permitted 90 days. So, if you have not exceeded the limit, there are no repercussions if your ESTA expires midway through your journey.

As long as you don’t remain longer than the 90 days that the Visa Waiver Program allows you if your ESTA does expire while you’re travelling, it won’t have an adverse effect on your subsequent trips to the United States. Be advised that while your passport must be current up to your departure and for six months following your arrival, your ESTA does not need to be valid for the full time of your stay.

Whenever possible, try to schedule your travel so that it is not too near to the expiration date of your ESTA in case your aircraft is delayed, and your ESTA expires before you reach the US border control. In this situation, the airline will typically deny your request to board the aircraft because they are aware that you lack the necessary authorization to enter the US.

It is a good idea to apply for a new ESTA before your trip if your current one is about to expire because it will simply replace the older one; you don’t need to wait until it has already expired.

NoteYour ESTA will no longer be valid if a new passport has been issued since you applied for it. An ESTA cannot be transferred from one passport to another; a new ESTA is necessary. An ESTA is connected to the passport information you supply when applying.

What happens if I stay longer than the 90-day ESTA limit?

Depending on elements like how long you exceed the 90-day restriction and the cause of your overstay, there are various repercussions. Those who decide to remain in the US after their visa has expired are considered unlawful immigrants and are subject to the laws governing illegal immigration.

Although you should get in touch with your embassy as soon as possible to receive advice on your position, the authorities will be more understanding if the overstay was unintentional and unavoidable, such as if you suffered an accident and are currently unable to fly. Another situation where an overstay can be beyond your control is if flights are postponed for a while for any reason.

If you want to apply for another ESTA or a US visa in the future, you can run into problems because the authorities might reject your applications if they determine that you abused your first one.

Can the ESTA be renewed or extended?

Although you can renew your ESTA, it is not feasible to extend it. Your ESTA is valid for a maximum of two years from issuance or until the earlier of your passport’s expiration date. You must submit a fresh application in the same manner as you did with your prior one to renew your ESTA.

Your travel schedule shouldn’t be affected by the ESTA renewal procedure because it often takes only a few minutes. U.S. Customs and Border Protection advises applying for or renewing your ESTA when you arrange your trip or at least 72 hours before you intend to travel.

Before your current ESTA expires, you can apply for a new one. You may do this at any time before, on, or after the date when your current ESTA expires. If you see the following message:

“A valid, approved application with more than 30 days remaining has been found for this passport. Submitting this application will require payment for this application and will then cancel the existing application.”

If you decide to move forward, the remaining days will be cancelled and replaced with your new application. The ESTA will then be extended for a further two years or until the expiration of your passport, whichever comes first.

Resubmitting an ESTA application is a simple procedure. Just as you did when you initially applied, you must follow the instructions to complete all of the questions and submit a fresh application for travel authorization.

Can I use my passport, which has expired?

You will not be allowed to apply for an ESTA if you are a citizen of Germany and hold a post-dated passport that won’t be valid until a specific date (because of a name change, for example), as you must have a passport that is valid at the moment the application is submitted. You won’t be able to use your post-dated passport to apply until the date of the detail change (marriage, divorce, gender change, or civil partnership ceremony), as it is only valid from that date.

To ensure everything is in order, you should verify the expiration date on your passport well before the day you fly and before submitting an ESTA application. You should always travel with a passport that is good for at least six months after the date of your intended trip.

If a new passport is issued to you or your name changed after you first applied, you must submit a new ESTA application. You can still travel using your old passport if you don’t have a new one but have altered your complete name or gender but not your gender identity.

You may also travel using a passport bearing your old name and gender and a ticket issued in your new name and gender. Ensure you have all the paperwork you’ll need to confirm your identification at border crossings. They comprise records like:

  • A copy of your marriage licence
  • Divorce decree
  • Any additional legal paperwork connecting your new name and/or gender to the one on the passport.
  • Document proving a legal name/gender change.

Does ESTA require a digital passport?

Absolutely, all ESTA candidates must possess current, valid, and up-to-date digital passports. Infants and children of all ages are included in this. Throughout your whole stay in the United States, the passport must be valid. If your passport expires while you’re still inside the country, you’ll be breaking the rules of the Visa Waiver Program.

Your passport must be digital to meet the standards of the Visa Waiver Program, with different features depending on the time period it was issued.

Your passport qualifies for travel under the Visa Waiver Program if it was issued, reissued, or extended before October 26, 2005, and is machine-readable.

If your machine-readable passport was issued, reissued, or extended between October 26, 2005, and October 25, 2006, it must include an integrated data chip (e-Passport) or a digital photo printed directly on the data page without being attached to it. Please see the integrated data chip section below.

If a machine cannot read your passport, you will not be eligible for the Visa Waiver Program and will need to obtain a visa to enter the United States using your current passport. As an alternative, you can convert your current passport to an e-Passport to meet the Visa Waiver Program’s passport requirements.

Is an ESTA the same as a US Visa for the Citizens of Germany?

An ESTA is an Entry Authorisation into United States for visits of upto 90 day for Tourism, Business or Transit. In numerous ways, an ESTA differs from a visa. For instance, the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) enables visitors to the United States without needing to apply for a conventional non-immigrant visitor visa. ESTA does not authorize you to study, join US labour or live in United States long terms unlike a US non-immigrant visa.

Do I require any further documentation besides the ESTA?

Yes, you need both your passport and your ESTA to travel to the US because the authorization is based on the passport number. This must be an electronic passport (ePassport) with a machine-readable zone on the biographic page and a digital chip carrying the owner’s biometric data. If your passport has a small emblem with a circle and a rectangle on the front, like this, you probably have a chip.

Two lines of text at the bottom of your passport’s information page designate it as a machine-readable passport. Machines can read the symbols and letters in this text to extract information. A digital photo, or one that is printed directly onto the data page, must also be included in the passport.

The online implementation of the ESTA US Visa is intended to increase border security. Soon after the September 11th, 2001 attacks, the ESTA US Visa programme was approved and launched in January 2009. In response to the rise in terrorism around the world, the ESTA US Visa programme was established to examine people travelling from abroad.

How to apply for American Visa from the United Kingdom?

As an applicant, one must be in good health and have no history of any type of convictions.

Once provided with the required information on the online application form and after the online credit card payment has been approved, British citizens will receive their US visas through email. It is important to note that in rare cases, the paperwork is irrelevant or does not pass the authorities’ regulations. In such cases, the applicant is contacted. This is usually done before the US visa is approved. In most such cases, extra paperwork is needed and things proceed smoothly after these are provided by the applicants.

American Visa requirements for UK citizens

If you already have a British passport, you may not need  US Visa specifically. You just need an ESTA, which is an online Visa for a short time. This type of Visa permits nationalities that qualify to enter the US for business or tourism purposes. If you are eligible for the ESTA, you can enter the US by sea or air.

British citizens will need a valid passport or travel document to apply for an ESTA US Visa to enter the United States. UK citizens with passports from extra countries should make sure they apply using the same passport they will use on their trip, as the ESTA US Visa will be electronically and directly linked to the passport stated when the application was made. As the ESTA is electronically stored alongside the passport in the U.S. Immigration system, there is no need to print or produce any documents at the airport.

In order to pay for the ESTA US Visa, applicants will also need a legitimate credit card, debit card, or PayPal account. British nationals must also supply a working email address to obtain the ESTA US Visa in their inbox. You must carefully verify all the information you input to ensure that there are no problems with the US Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). If there are, you may need to apply for another ESTA USA Visa.

How long is the US Visa Online valid for British citizens?

The departure date for a British national must occur 90 days after arrival. Holders of British passports must apply for a United States Electronic Travel Authority (US ESTA) even if their trip will only last one day or up to 90 days. British nationals should apply for the appropriate Visa based on their circumstances if they plan to stay for a longer period of time. The US Visa Online is good for two years straight. Located on two sites, The Met on the Fifth Avenue and The Met Cloisters, the museum spans thousands of years of history of human civilization.

Spread over 17 curatorial departments, this is by far the largest museum of New York City. Apparently, The Met Cloisters, which is a subsidiary of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, situated in Fort Tryon Park, is the only museum in America dedicated to European art from the medieval era. Even if you are not a museum fan, a family trip to ‘The Met’ Fifth Avenue would be worth the time on a visit to New York.

The Museum of Modern Art

One of the largest modern art museums of the world, The Museum of Modern Art has extraordinary contemporary art collections ranging from artworks in the field of films, sculptures to multimedia art collections. The Starry Night by Van Gogh, which is one of most recognised paintings of modern art, is only one among many hundreds of thousands of artworks featured in the museum. If you were never an art fan, maybe witnessing one of Picasso’s works up close might change your mind!

The Guggenheim Museum

Built by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the museum’s architecture is often referred to as a picture of modernism. The museum is known for its striking exterior as well as rare interior artwork by many legendary artists of contemporary art.

Located on the world’s most expensive streets, in the Upper East Side neighbourhood of Manhattan, the visual appeal of this architectural wonder would make it impossible to miss this attraction anyways. Even if nobody told you about this place in New York, you might still end up getting amazed by its visually captivating exterior.

A museum of its own kind, American Museum of Natural History is a place loaded with natural wondersouter spacedinosaurs and what not, with the museum’s foundation lying on discoveries of Darwin and other contemporaries of the time. Probably the only place in the world with the most important scientific discoveries about vertebrate evolution, greeting its visitors with the tallest standing dinosaur exhibit in the world, this museum can never be one of those places to be skipped on a visit to New York.

With more than forty exhibition halls ranging from mammal halls, fossil halls and environmental halls, visit to this museum becomes an even better of an experience with its frequently held special exhibitions, making it for great family time.

Whitney Museum of American Art

The Whitney Museum of American Art, known informally as “The Whitney”

The Whitney is a museum specifically focused on American art from the 20th century with greater attention to works of living artists. The Whitney museum showcases works by iconic American artists, with the institution being fully devoted to artists of the United States.

It is definitely one of the unique places to observe works by the artists of our time. The museum’s flagship exhibition, The Whitney Biennial, has been the hallmark event of the institution since the 1930’s, and is also known to be the longest running festival curating artworks from America.

9/11 Memorial & Museum

Nine Eleven Memorial and Museum

911 memorial built to commemorate the September 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center

A museum built to commemorate the September 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, this is one place totally worth a visit on a trip to New York. The museum is concerned with exploring the 9 11 attacks, the impact which the attacks made and its continuous effect observed in society today.

The place’s simple but brilliant architecture, given the central spot of a giant pool, with water cascading down from black granite, creates a soothing sound of water masking the noise from the surrounding city.

Located at the World Trade Center, the exhibitions take visitors on narratives of the attacks through media, artifacts and many personal stories of hope. A visit to the 9/11 Museum is one emotional and memorable experience, something surely recommended on a visit to the city.

Home to more than four hundred national parks spread across its fifty states, no list mentioning most astonishing parks in the United States may ever be complete. While the names of these scenic places in America are renowned world over, a recount of these natural wonders always becomes a good reminder of great American wonders beyond its 21st century cities.

A visit to America would surely be incomplete without visiting these places filled with amazing views of wildlife, forests and natural surroundings. And maybe these spectacular natural views might become one of your favourite places in the country, contrary to what one could have imagined before arriving in America!

Great Smoky Mountain National Park

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is an American national park in the southeastern United States

Distributed between the states of North Carolina and Tennessee, this national park brings the finest display of nature in America. The wildflowers which grow year-round and the endless forests, streams and rivers make Great Smoky Mountain one of the most popular national parks in the country.

The park’s most popular destination, Cades Cove Loop Road, is a 10 mile trail with beautiful views of the river and many activity options along the way. With cascading waterfallswildlife and landscapes stretching over five hundred thousand acres, there is clearly a good reason for the park’s massive popularity.

Yellowstone National Park

A home of the hotsprings, Yellowstone National Park located in Western United States is home to more geysers and hotsprings than any other place on the planet! The park itself sits on top of a dormant volcano and is widely known for Old Faithful, the most famous geysers of all, making it one of the most recognised natural wonders of America. The vast majority of the park is located in the state of Wyoming, which surprisingly other than the geysers, is also famous for its bison herds.

The world renowned geyser, Old Faithful erupts about twenty times in a day and was one of the first geysers in the park to be named.

Rocky Mountain National Park

Considered as the highest park in the United States, the Rocky Mountains National Park with its towering landscapes and spectacular mountain environment is renowned for its gorgeous views.

The park’s highest peak, Longs Peak, stands at an elevation of more than fourteen thousand feet. Spanning the area around Northern Colorado, the park is most loved for its drives passing through aspen trees, forests and rivers. Estes park is the closest town to the east side of the park, where its sixty mountain peaks make it world renowned for its spectacular scenery.

Yosemite National Park

Located in Northern California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, Yosemite National Park is one great example of America’s natural wonders. The park’s dramatic waterfalls, huge lakes and forest trails welcome millions of visitors every year. A must see place on a visit to California, Yosemite is located near the city of Mariposa. The place is most famous for its towering Bridalveil Falls and gigantic cliffs of EL Capitan. The nearby Yosemite Village has facilities of lodging, along with shops, restaurants and galleries to explore during the day.

Famed for its mountain waterfallsiconic climbing spotsdeep valleys and the longest living trees , Yosemite has been amazing visitors since generations.

Grand Teton National Park

Grand Teton National Park has a magnetic draw for photographers and wildlife enthusiasts

With its peaceful surroundings, this small but wonderful park could easily become the favourite of all national parks in America. The Teton Range, a mountain range of the Rocky Mountains spreads through the state of Wyoming in the west, with its highest point named as Grand Teton.

Often confused as a part of Yellowstone National Park, this park actually offers a completely different experience of its natural surroundings. Although being much smaller than Yellowstone, Teton National Park is still a place worth exploring for its beautiful peaceful views and hundreds of miles of trails with the company of gorgeous mountain scenery.

Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon National Park

Grand Canyon National Park is truly a treasure unlike anything else on Earth

Bands of red rock telling the history of millions of years of geological formation, this park is home to America’s most well-known scenery. A popular national park destination, Grand Canyon National Park with views of the canyon and the majestic Colorado River, known for its white water rapids and dramatic bends, are some of the park’s scenery which becomes even more dramatic when witnessed at sunset or sunrise.

Some of the must see places in the park include a unique desert waterfallthe Havasu Falls, a tour of Grand Canyon Village, a tourist village with lodging and shopping facilities and finally for the ultimate natural views, a hike through the amazing red canyon cliffs is one perfect way of exploring this remote scenic beauty.

While there are literally hundreds of other national parks located all around the country, equal or maybe more serene and beautiful views, located all around the country, a few of these parks for a very good reason are renowned all over the world.

Exploring the vastness of these landscapes might easily make us wonder, if there is a side of America outside of this at all!

Get detailed information on US/American visa requirements and eligibility criteria at US Visa Online. Here you can get complete details that you must know before applying for an American visa.

Visiting the United States was once perceived as a complicated process. However, things have changed in recent times. Various people from different countries can now visit the US without dwindling on the tiresome process of applying for The United States Visitor Visa. Now, you can easily travel to the country by applying for a US Electronic System Travel or US ESTA. This system waives the American Visa and helps you in coming to the US via air (both chartered or commercial flights included), land, or sea. The convenience with which ESTA works can really amaze you in many aspects.

In its true sense, the purpose of an ESTA US Visa is the same as that of an American Visa. However, the processing of applications is much faster as compared to the American Visa application. Also, the ESTA is handled online and hence you can expect the results in a quicker time frame.

After being accepted, your ESTA for the United States will be connected to your passport and be valid for a maximum of two (2) years from the date of issue, or for a shorter amount of time if your passport expires earlier than two years. It can be used frequently to enter the country for brief stays of up to 90 days. However, keep in mind that the precise length of your stay will be determined by the reason for your trip and stamped on your passport by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.

But first of all, you must confirm that you meet all conditions for the US ESTA, which qualifies you for the ESTA for the United States.

US ESTA American Visa Requirements

ESTA American Visa application requirements

Your passport will be used to link the US ESTA and the type of passport you have will also influence whether you are permitted to apply for an ESTA for the United States or not. For the US ESTA American Visa application, the following passport holders are eligible:

  • People who hold regular passports from nations that are eligible for the US ESTA as per the list.
  • Holders of Emergency/Temporary Passports from eligible nations
  • Holders of Diplomatic, Official, or Service Passports from eligible countries, unless they are excused from applying at all and can travel without the ESTA.

If you do not have the appropriate documentation with you, you cannot enter the United States even if your ESTA for the United States has been approved. The most significant of these required documents for entry into the United States is your passport, which a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer will stamp with the dates of your stay.

The United States of America has different categories of visas for people from various countries to apply for when they plan a visit. Some nationalities are eligible for visa waivers under a visa waiver program (VWP). At the same time, some need to appear for an interview for their U.S. visa process in person, while some are eligible to process their visa application online.

Those candidates eligible for VWP must apply for ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). Continue reading to know more about the rules of ESTA and its process.

What are the Eligible Countries?

Nationals of the following 40 countries are eligible for the visa waiver program and do not require to fill out the U.S. visa application form.

  • Andorra

The ESTA-eligible travelers entering the United States must have an e-passport if their passports are issued after October 26th 2006. e-Passport contains an electronic chip that carries all the information in the passenger’s passport bio-data page and a digital photograph.

Due to some changes in the U.S. visa policies, the citizens of the countries mentioned above should get their ESTA approval. The standard processing time is 72 hours, so applicants must apply at least three days before travel. It is recommended they do it early and start their travel preparations only after getting the approval. Travellers can apply for the ESTA online or through an authorized agent.

Many times, travellers forget to apply for ESTA and do it on their day of travel. Although things usually go smoothly if the traveller has everything else in order, sometimes the screening may take longer, and the applicants have to postpone their trip.

What is the Difference Between ESTA and Visa?

ESTA is an approved travel authorisation but is not considered a visa.  ESTA does not meet the lawful or regulatory requirements to serve in place of a United States visa.

ESTA holders can only use the permit for tourism, business or transit, but if they want to stay for more than 90 days, study or work, they must attain that visa category. The process is similar to other individuals where the candidate must fill the U.S. visa application form, pay the application fee and submit additional documents.

Individuals with valid visas can travel to the United States on that visa for the purpose it was issued. Individuals travelling on valid visas need not apply for ESTA.

Applicants must apply for a visa if they travel on a private aircraft or any non-VWP-approved sea or air carrier.

US Visa Online is now available to be obtained by mobile phone or tablet or PC by email, without requiring a visit to the local US Embassy. Also, US Visa Application Form is simplified to be completed online on this website in under 15 minutes.

Why is ESTA Required?

Since January 2009, the U.S. has made it mandatory for VWP-eligible travellers visiting the country for a short stay to apply for ESTA. The main reasons are security and prevention of terrorism in the country or elsewhere in the world. It enabled the government to manage and register information on travellers coming to the U.S. for short stays. These things allowed them to review in advance whether the applicant has a status to visit the U.S. without a visa or whether the individual might be a threat to the U.S. if allowed.

People need to be aware authorisation through ESTA does not guarantee entry into the country. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials are the final authorities on the traveller’s eligibility to enter the country. There are possibilities of a person being refused admission and deported to their country.

Documents Required for ESTA Travel Authorization Application

Applicants eligible for the ESTA visa waiver program should be ready with the necessary documents and information they may be asked for during the application process. These include

  • Valid passport:  The passport must be valid for more than six months from the day of the traveller’s date of arrival in the USA. If it is invalid, renew the same before applying for the ESTA. Travellers must fill in passport information in the ESTA application to complete their U.S. visa process.
  • Other information: Sometimes, the authorities might ask for the address, telephone number, and other details for communication in the USA where the applicant will be staying. They must answer it correctly and truthfully.
  • E-mail address:  The applicants must provide a valid e-mail address for the authorities to communicate regarding their application. The ESTA approval for the USA trip will reach the e-mail within 72 hours. It is recommended to print a copy of the document while travelling.
  • Visa payment:  Along with the visa application online, the candidates should make the visa application fee through a valid debit or credit card.

Candidates Can Apply For a visa if Their ESTA Application is Rejected.

Applicants whose ESTA U.S. visa application is rejected online can still apply by filling out a new U.S. visa application form and paying the non-refundable visa processing fee. But they may not qualify to process visa application online.

However, when the candidates reapply for a visa, they must carry several documents to confirm their reasons for visiting. Although they can reapply after three working days, it is improbable their circumstances would change on such short notice, and their U.S. visa application may again be rejected.

So, they must wait for some time, improve their position and reapply with a new U.S. visa application form and strong reasons with documents to prove why they must visit the country.

Likewise, some people rejected for a visa under section 214 B try to apply for ESTA, but they will most likely be denied permission. In most cases, they will be rejected. It is recommended they wait and improve their status.

ESTA Validity

The ESTA travel document is valid for two years from the date of issuance and allows the applicants to enter the country several times. They can stay for a maximum of 90 days on each visit. They must leave the country and re-enter if they plan a more extended trip.

However, it is also essential the passport must be valid beyond two years, or the ESTA will expire on the day the passport expires. Applicants must reapply for a fresh ESTA after getting a new passport.

Do passengers transiting USA require ESTA approval?

Yes, all travellers making any kind of stopover in the USA, including transit passengers, must hold a valid visa or ESTA.   A valid ESTA document will enable passengers to change flights/airports while travelling to other destinations. Those not eligible for the VWP must submit a U.S. visa application for a transit visa to change aircraft at an airport, even if they do not intend to stay in the country.

Do Minors & Infants Require ESTA?

Yes, minors and children, regardless of their age, must have separate passports and should also have the ESTA. It is their parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to apply before they plan their travel.

How to Apply for the ESTA Online?

Processing the ESTA application is not a lengthy process and is simple, unlike the U.S. visa application procedure. The system is quick and should not take more than 20 minutes to complete. The applicants must follow the instructions given below:

First: Applicants can visit the ESTA website and fill up the electronic form with general information about their trip. If the applicants want their ESTA urgently, they must select the option “urgent delivery.”

Second: Then, make the online payment. Make sure all the information entered is correct before making the payment. When the ESTA is approved no additional fees is charged.

Once the process is completed, you will receive a confirmation e-mail.
