UK Visa for Liberian Citizens

UK Visa from Liberia

Updated: February 05, 2025 | By Online Visa Support

The deep history of the palaces and cathedrals and the symbolic attraction of the United Kingdom offer a great travel experience for travellers. The excellent education and business opportunities also increase the number of visitors travelling to the United Kingdom. Certainly, travellers visiting the United Kingdom cannot overlook a travel permit or a UK visa. There are various UK visa category options, each with its own travel purpose.

Before determining the type of UK visa that suits the traveller, they should be eligible to apply for it. The eligibility depends on the nationality of the travellers. UK ETA is a valid and legal travel permit offered by the United Kingdom government. The introduction of electronic travel authorization simplified the visa application process and provided a great advantage which is the online process. Not everyone can apply for UK ETA, only the nationals of certain countries are mandated to have UK ETA for their UK trip. The UK ETA requirement has been made mandatory for Liberian citizens for all their UK trips from 2nd April 2025.

UK ETA and Who Needs It?

The UK ETA serves many purposes such as enhancing UK border security and offering an easy entry process for travellers. It is also a pre-screening process that streamlines the traveller entering or travelling through the United Kingdom. Travellers must check the list of countries that require UK ETA to find out if they are mandated to apply for UK ETA. All the eligible citizens must have gotten their UK ETA online before their departure.

UK ETA for Liberian Citizens

As mentioned, the nationals of Liberia travelling through or visiting the United Kingdom on or after 2nd April 2025 will require a UK ETA. The UK ETA permits travellers entry into the UK only for travel purposes as mentioned below.

  • Transiting through the UK
  • Short-term educational course
  • Business
  • Creative Worker Visa Concession (90-day stay is allowed)
  • Tourism
  • Permitted paid events and engagements
  • Meeting family members or friends

Even though the UK ETA is a mandatory process, Liberian citizens must apply for it only when their UK trip requirements completely align with the UK ETA. Travellers whose travel purpose differs from that of the UK ETA must choose other suitable UK visas.

UK ETA Authorized Stay in the UK

Liberian citizens applying for UK ETA should know the authorized stay of UK ETA because it benefits in planning the return. With the UK ETA travellers can plan a stay for six months (180 days) in the United Kingdom. The added advantage is that UK ETA permits multiple entries. This eliminated the need to reapply every time entering the UK. Also, the six months stay applies to each entry. Travellers are advised to book their return flight ticket within six months to avoid overstaying.

Travellers entering the UK for Creative Worker Visa Concession which mandates temporary valid work, are permitted to stay only for three months (90 days). Also, consider looking into the other UK ETA requirements. Liberian citizens can get their UK ETA by applying online. UK ETA is suitable only for short trips and it cannot be extended or renewed. Upon expiration of their current UK ETA travellers should apply for a new UK ETA.

List of Documents Required for UK ETA

Applying for UK ETA is seamless and requires minimal documents. Liberian citizens must submit all the documents while filling out the UK ETA application form. It helps to assess the traveller’s details and decide their eligibility to enter the United Kingdom. Below are the documents necessary for the UK ETA application process.

  • Original passport (is an important document, it must be valid with two blank pages. Digital passport and photocopies will not be accepted).
  • Digital photos (colour photo is mandatory)
  • Valid payment methods (debit card or credit card)
  • Email ID

Before submitting or uploading the documents check they are valid and align with the UK ETA requirements. Also, if required travellers might be requested to submit additional documents to process their UK ETA application form.

Applying Process for UK ETA

The entire process of obtaining a UK ETA is online. There are only a few processes involved in applying for a UK ETA. Before all, it is important to check whether the travel purpose and eligibility criteria match the UK ETA requirements. If not, the application will be rejected. If all the necessary documents are ready applicants can follow the below-mentioned UK ETA application process.

Checking the Pre-requirements

As mentioned, Liberian citizens will need UK ETA for all their UK trips planned on or after 2nd April 2025. Verify the eligibility criteria and requirements of UK ETA. The duration of the stay, travel purpose, validity and other requirements must match the traveller’s trip. Check the entry requirements and the prohibited activities listed under UK ETA. Following the regulation is important.

Get the Documents

Having all the documents beforehand helps to experience a seamless application process. It also helps in completing the application form on time.

Accessing the UK ETA Website

Access the UK ETA website and click the UK ETA application form. Go through the online UK ETA application form and start entering the information. Avoid spelling errors while entering the details. Check if the passport details are entered correctly. Applicants must enter their personal and travel documents or related details and answer a few questions about immigration history, employment and criminal convictions.

Documents Upload and Review

Before the application process, travellers must get a scanned copy of their passport and a coloured digital photo (2 or 4 photos). Traveller’s passport scan copy must be clear and the photo must comply with the UK ETA photo requirements. The applicant's colour photo must have been recently taken. The photo background of the applicants must be white or light-coloured. Also, the file size must be 50 KB or 10 MB. Finally, review the application form to check if the application form is free from error.

Submit and Pay the Fee

Upon verifying each entry field in the application form, submit it. Paying the UK ETA fee is the final step of the UK ETA application process. Applicants can use valid online payment modes or their credit or debit card to process their UK ETA application fee. Check the UK ETA fee prior to applying. The UK ETA fee is standard for all applicants including minors.

Application Confirmation and Process

Each applicant will receive a confirmation message about their UK ETA application. The application process of UK ETA will take three days. After the approval, the UK ETA will be mailed to the traveller’s provided email ID.

An important aspect is that getting a UK ETA implies a traveller’s eligibility to enter the UK, but it does not guarantee travellers entry. All travellers must adhere to the UK border protection protocols and immigration checks. Everyone (travellers with friends or family group) including the minors and infants must have their own UK ETA by submitting a separate application form. UK ETA does not permit travellers to submit group applications, but travellers can apply for UK ETA for their kids, family members or friends.

Validity of UK ETA for Liberian Citizens

Starting from the UK ETA issuance or approval date, travellers can use it for up to two years (which is the validity of UK ETA). Upon approval, the UK ETA will be linked to the traveller’s passport. The expiry of the passport (before the UK ETA validity period) also implies the expiry of the UK ETA. Travellers must apply for a new UK ETA in the following instances.

  • Passport expiry before the UK ETA expiry date
  • Changing the name or other details on the passport
  • Obtaining a new passport

UK ETA Processing Time

As mentioned, the processing time of the UK ETA application will be around 72 hours (3 business days). The time might vary according to the situation and application process. The common reasons that delay the UK ETA application process are incorrect information, additional security checks, tourist peak season, etc. Submitting the application form at least six to eight days before the travel date helps to plan ahead and gives ample time to manage the rejection and delay. Group travellers must note that the processing time for each application might differ. Applying in advance will make sure that all the travellers in the group receive their UK ETA application approved before the travel date.

Restricted Activities Under UK ETA

Travellers must be sure of the activities they are restricted from when travelling to the United Kingdom using the UK ETA. Take note of the below listed restricted activities.

  • Restricted to work in the UK
  • Cannot use the multiple entry facility to live in the United Kingdom
  • Should not get married
  • Cannot claim public funds or any benefits
  • Prohibited to stay in the UK more than 6 months

Travellers are advised to book their return within 6 months each time they enter the United Kingdom using the multiple-entry facility. Overstaying the UK ETA authorized six months (duration of stay) might lead to paying fines. It will also affect the traveller’s future travel plans.

Checking UK ETA Application Status

The application tracker online made checking the UK ETA application status a much easier process. Travellers must get to the “UK ETA Application Status Online” tab or section on the website and enter the details. Travellers must enter their UK ETA application reference number or their date of birth and passport number to check their status. After entering the required information travellers can submit it to check their UK ETA application status.

UK ETA Rejection or Denial

Travellers can still enter the UK if their UK ETA application is denied or rejected. Upon UK ETA denial or rejection, travellers can choose to apply for other UK visas or entry permits for which they are eligible. Do not overlook reading the UK ETA rejection review letter. It helps to know the rejection issues and to avoid or address them to improve the successful outcome.
