What Are Some Tourist Attractions in Turkey for Saudi Arabians?

Turkey is a fascinating country that straddles Asia and Europe. It is overflowing with ancient monuments left behind by a succession of civilizations, as well as breathtaking scenery that never ceases to amaze.

All visitors are captivated by its colorful culture, delicious cuisine, and ancient history. Its breathtaking landscapes, which range from the bright sunshine of the Mediterranean to massive mountains and desolate steppe, can be visited as separate tourist attractions.

Whether you want to soak up the Byzantine and Ottoman splendor of Istanbul on a city break, relax on the beach, delve into history by visiting sites such as Ephesus, or experience some of the world’s most unusual landscapes in Pamukkale and Cappadocia, this country offers it all.

Check out our list of Turkey’s top tourist destinations for inspiration on where to go.

Cruising the Mediterranean

There are several ruins and activities along Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, but for many visitors, it is all about soaking up the sun and admiring the stunning coastal views.

For good reason, yachting is the most popular pastime for visitors visiting Bodrum and Fethiye. The steep forest-clad slopes, secret coves with tiny white-sand beaches, and hundreds of scattered islands are ideal for maritime exploration. Even the most ardent landlubbers will be impressed.

The Blue Cruise, which cruises from Fethiye south down the coast till disembarking near Olympus, home to the remarkable natural phenomenon of the Chimaera, is one of the most famous journeys.

Mount Nemrut

Mount Nemrut’s summit funerary mound is strewn with the broken remains of once-colossal statues that guarded it, making it the leading tourist attraction in eastern Turkey.

This strange and lonely location has to be one of Turkey’s most unusual archaeological sites. The peak is dominated by the massive stone heads of long-forgotten gods, generating an eerie aura over the barren mountainside.

Antiochus I, monarch of the Commagene Kingdom, which situated here in the buffer zone between the Roman and Parthian empires, built the peak.

As a display of his significance, Antiochus I devoted this enormous funeral mound to himself, erecting a 50-meter-high artificial top on Mount Nemrut’s summit and then adorning it with statues of himself and numerous gods.

The most popular time to visit is at sunrise, when you can witness the statues emerge from the darkness.

Ölüdeniz

Water that appears to be turquoise-blue. Check. A lush green woodland descends a cliff to a white-sand beach. Check. The secluded cove of Lüdeniz, just a short drive from Fethiye, is Turkey’s most famous beach, and with beauty that might have come straight from a picture, it’s easy to see why its popularity hasn’t waned.

If the beach becomes too crowded, it’s time to take to the sky and enjoy the breathtaking aerial views from the summit of towering Babada (Mount Baba), which rises up behind the shore.

Aspendos

The jaw-dropping colossal bulk of the Roman Theater of Aspendos, just south of the resort city of Antalya, commemorates the pomp and ceremony of Marcus Aurelius’ empire.

The highly renovated, 15,000-seat theater is one of antiquity’s major attractions. It is considered the finest surviving example of a classical age theater still standing in the world.

Although the theater is the major reason for a visit (and for most visitors on a half-day journey from neighboring Antalya or Side, it is all they see), the Aspendos complex has numerous more remains to see.

There are ruins of an aqueduct, an agora, a stadium, and a Byzantine-era basilica dispersed around the broad hillside region that surrounds the theater.

Patara

With such a lengthy Mediterranean coastline, Turkey has a beach for every style of sun worshiper, but Patara is one of its most well-known stretches of sand.

The beach is 18 kilometers long and gives plenty of space, so even in the height of summer, you can find a calm area far away from the people.

The extensive ruins of Ancient Patara, which feature a colonnaded street, rebuilt bouleuterion (the city’s parliament), and a theater that sat 5,000 people, add to the experience.

After you have gotten your fill of sun, beach, and swimming, explore the crumbling relics of this once affluent Lycian city behind the sand dunes.

Patara is easily accessible from both Kas and Fethiye.

Pergamum

There are several Greco-Roman ruins in Turkey, but none are as beautifully situated as ancient Pergamum in modern-day Bergama.

Pergamum’s remaining temple fragments now preside powerfully across a hilltop, once home to one of the ancient world’s most famous libraries (rivaling Alexandria’s library in significance) and the famed medical school established by Galen.

It is a fantastically atmospheric location to explore. The Acropolis area, with its theater built into the slope, contains the largest ruins and provides magnificent views of the surrounding countryside.

The remnants of the city’s renowned medical center can be found in the Asklepion neighborhood below.

This is an excellent spot to visit if you wish to experience life during the Classical period.
