ETIAS for Sweden

Before completing an application form, applicants must ensure They satisfy the prerequisites for travel papers for the Swedish ETIAS visa waiver.

The following requirements must be met in addition to having a passport from an ETIAS-qualifying country that is valid for at least three several months after the intended travel into Sweden and the Schengen area:

1. A Debit/Credit Card is used to pay the Sweden ETIAS fee.
2. A Current email address where the Swedish ETIAS will be delivered after authorization.

The ETIAS rules for Sweden indicate that the passport must match the one used to submit the ETIAS application. Therefore applicants with dual nationality should ensure they bring the right passport when traveling to the Schengen Area. A specific travel document is electronically linked to the approved ETIAS Sweden.

Although it is not an obligatory ETIAS requirement for travelers visiting Sweden to print a copy of the authorized visa waiver, it is recommended that they do so before boarding their flight to the Schengen Area.

To continue traveling to the Schengen Area, the applicant must reapply for the ETIAS if their passport expires while it is still valid for Sweden.

Closer to the start date of November 2024, the European Commission might reveal additional requirements for an ETIAS for Sweden. Once accessible, these will be posted on this website.

Swedish Schengen Visa Application Requirements

Those not qualified in Sweden require a visa to qualify for the ETIAS to enter Sweden. Sweden follows the same visa requirements as the other 25 Schengen countries because it is a member of the Schengen Zone and the EU. Therefore, the prerequisites for a Schengen visa (embassy visa) are the same as the prerequisites for a Sweden visa.

A Schengen visa is often given for one specific Schengen country, as opposed to the ETIAS, which allows travel within the whole Schengen Area during its validity period. It is important to schedule an appointment at the closest Swedish embassy/consulate to apply for a Swedish Schengen visa.

A completed Sweden visa application form must be downloaded, printed, and brought attend the embassy meeting with the following documents:

• A passport at least three months past the planned entrance date into Sweden.
• Two recent passport-size photos were taken within the last three months.
• Evidence of return flights.

• A record of having enough money for the trip.
• The evidence of travel insurance covering the stay.
• Documentation proving payment of the Sweden Schengen visa fee
• A letter of invitation from relatives or friends, or hotel arrangements in Sweden.

Depending on the kind of Sweden Schengen visa the applicant needs, the following additional documents must also be provided:

• Sweden tourist visa – A travel schedule.
• Letter of acceptance from a Swedish educational institution for a Schengen study visa.
• Sweden’s employment contract is required for a Schengen work visa.
• A copy of the marriage certificate and the spouse’s passport are required for a Schengen visa to accompany a spouse to Sweden.
• Sweden’s Schengen medical visa – A letter from a doctor in your native country AND a letter attesting to your medical care in Sweden.

Those who apply for a visa to Sweden at an embassy/consulate are expected to do so at least two weeks before the desired arrival date into the Schengen Area because processing times can take up to 15 days.
